Room 105, Hotel Europa, Signa
Three or four hours after we left the pier, we entered the Tuscan region of Italy and the town of Signa in the province of Firenze (which is the Italian name for Florence). We spent a loooooooong time driving through narrow roads in residential areas, so we all got a good look at our surroundings.
My first impression of Signa was of a sleepy small town full of warm colours (houses in shades of brown, rust, mustard and salmon) and flora (huge roses and lilies in gardens and on balconies, and lots of shady trees all around).

Just when we had given up wondering how the narrow streets could possibly contain a hotel, the coach pulled into the Hotel Europa's small compound.
Dinner wasn't included, so after waiting for our luggage as usual, we went out into the cold evening air and crossed the compound to (surprise!) an Italian restaurant.
I had tagliatelle with mushrooms and cream sauce, a slice of ham and mushroom pizza...and a large mug of Heineken beer!

Then I managed to find some extra space for a giant gelato.

After which it was finally bedtime.
