Leaving Munich for Innsbruck

We arrived in Munich after all the shops had closed (again) but this time dinner wasn't included, so we took the train down to the city centre and emerged into the open air at 9 p.m., to the sound of the bells in the new city hall ringing in the hour.

After lots of enquiries (which resulted in a very roundabout walk), we finally reached the famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall.

The cavernous place with its lovely painted ceiling was filled with the sounds of tourists chatting and eating, a live band playing, and waitresses in traditional dress thunking huge mugs of beer on tables.

I wasn't particularly hungry (thanks to the mashed potato) so I settled for some potato and vegetable soup with dark rye bread. And beer of course!

After dinner we spent some time browsing the restaurant's adjoining gift shop, before hurrying back to the hotel - since it was nearly 10 p.m. and we had to get up at 5.30 a.m. the next day!
